Website redesign i complete!!!

This is a quick post as I've been staring at the laptop all day adding items to the website and there's loads more to get added!!! I'd much rather be playing but it has to get done.

My friend Matt (who is truly awesome! and I'm not the soppy type :P) has redesigned my website for me, logos, banners and all singing all dancing bits! I absolutely love it and hope you will too! Have a wee peek at it and let me know what you think!

My glassy day trip- Caithness Glass factory, Crieff

On my leaving night from work a week ago we were discussing what I would be doing on my week off in between jobs. Someone mentioned to me that I should visit the Caithness Glass factory. My dismal knowledge of Scotland came to the fore when I realised it was less than an hour from me and I had never even thought about going. SO i decided I would have to go have a wee look around... and dragged my mum and sister too.

After all the lovely weather we've been getting we woke up on Thursday to rain. As it turned out that was the best thing that could've happened. Its a fairly small factory compared to those you might find in Stourbridge etc however the factory has a observation area where you can watch the glass workers making paperweights. Absolutely fantastic to watch, they make it look so easy!!!

Being me I had to have a shot. For £30 you can make your very own piece of Caithness Glass. It was hot hot work with all the furnaces etc so I was really glad it was colder outside! Here's some pics of me doing just that!

My instructors name was Calum, lovely guy who just so happens to also be a lampworker. He showed me some pictures of the paperweights he makes. Absolutely amazing. His work mainly seems to revolve around paperweights with lampwork inclusions which are the most detailed paperweights I have ever seen! He also gave us a sneak preview of this years Christmas paperweight, which I really have to put on the list for Santa! Here's a pic of him at work:

There's also a shop, which is an inspiration to walk around. To think these people make all of these and most dont take them more than 20 minutes to make!!! I could spend the rest of my life trying and never produce something as beautiful!

Anyways, if your in the neighbourhood it is well worth a visit!!! Also the website is worth a look too!

Rave Reviews- Pegasus Lampwork Tools

Hello again, in this blog I’m going to do a little feature on Pegasus Lampwork Tools as I recently bought this ribbed round and bicone bead roller.

The website is easy to navigate with a fantastic range of graphite rollers. Bev is constantly updating the site with new designs including a few which have been added recently including the chunky focal combo which looks like a fantastic collection of the most desirable shapes. The cart is easy peasy to wiz through and payment by paypal is probably the easiest way to pay for anything on the net these days.

I ordered my roller on Friday and woke up to find it on my door mat on Saturday morning. How is that for service! To say I was surprised is an understatement. Graphite can be pretty brittle so when I seen it had gone through the letter box I was a little worried it might have gotten damaged. But there was no reason to worry, it was packaged very well with loads of bubble wrap and didn’t have some much as a scratch on it!

I have had a play with the roller itself (I borrowed one from the Lovely Sue prior to buying my own) and it is a great tool. Very easy to use. I had thought that they would be a little top heavy as the handle is quite thin, however they are very well balanced and the thin handle is actually the perfect size. It also fits in my CG bead roller stand which is useful! The beads themselves have turned out pretty well for a first attempt (from a relative newbie :P). The learning curve on this tool is very short, within a couple of beads I had figured out just about how much glass was needed to obtain a slightly ribbed bead and a more defined bead. I personally prefer the more defined version but it’s nice to be able to play about with it. I need a bit more practice on keeping the ends of my beads nicely puckered but I have no doubt with a little more practice i'll get there! The selection of sizes is also great, from small spacer sizes right up to focal sizes. I'm definitely going to make a set featuring the amber and green beads. Its amazing how this roller can make a plain coloured bead look so much more interesting. I also love the way it gives fritty beads a bit more dimension and interest. Once my encasing is a bit better i'll try encasing some fritty beads as I've seen some gorgeous examples of this.

Anyone who has ever seen my shedio (or my bank balance!) will know I’m slightly obsessed with bead rollers. I have 4 CG Beadrollers and one Pegasus (and that’s AFTER I sold a few). I cant honestly say if I have a favourite or not because they are both fab tools to have, however the idea of buying from the UK without the need to pay a Royal Mail ransom and wait a while appeals to me. As always a little healthy competition in the market never hurts, particularly when you’re the consumer :P

Now I have my eye on a few more bead rollers from Bev’s range so I had better get selling and saving!!!

A day in the life of.... and a focus on Mad Cat Glass

Well I'm happy to say that the new and improved shedio is almost complete! One small part to paint and a hole for the ventilation to be cut. Its taken an eternity but it is fantastic! Much more inspiring and a far happier place to be. Photos to come very soon!

In the mean time I have had a glassy delivery (second this month!) from Tuffnells Glass, complete with freebies! Some Effetre tongue pink and some filigrana!!! I also added a few other colours to my collection, mainly CIM as these were on sale (and who can resist a glassy sale!). Pic of my haul below (please ignore the crocheted blanket, the cat had an 'incident' on the actual bed sheets :( )

In addition what you cant see from my picture (because my camera batteries died mid photo shoot) is that I am the very proud owner of some beads from Mad Cat Glass. http://www.etsy.com/shop/MadCatGlass . All the beads for sale by Mad Cat Glass are handmade lampwork beads made by artist Lesley Jane Nixon in her North Staffordshire home. Les is a lovely woman who is immensely talented and I've been hoping to get some of her beads since I started lampworking a year ago. Hmm I've been neglecting this lately

Unfortunately life has a way of getting in the way of my good intentions, as such I havent spent nearly enough time on this blog, the website or generally making things!!!

Never to mind, I do have a new cat, his name is Alfie and here is a pic of him:

Whilst he may be as cute as can be he is also a monster! Just kidding, he's a cat, therefore he thinks he rules the roost and I'm just here to keep him topped up on food and cuddles. He has already brought me a "gift" (read poor wee dead bird). I have directed him towards the Tuffnells Glass website should he want to bring anymore gifts.

Oh and I have recently purchased some Val Cox frits from Veebeads (must say, super fast delivery and the packaging is fantastic!). Hopefully I can get some time in the shed at the weekend.
Which brings me onto the shed. Gosh has this been a long term project. Me and Alasdair have been insulating the shed. Easy job you say? Not so, I say. Its currently half done and due to terrible weather and clashing timetables has stood half completed for the last month. Again a job for the weekend.

Frit, frit, frit

Well you've guessed it I've been in the shedio playing with the masses of frit i've accumulated this year. Frit if you didn't know, which most people dont- i'm just a bit sad like this :P - is basically crushed glass. Why would you want that I hear you ask, well this is why:

Made with my new found love of frit blends (Beady Sams frit blends are just gorgeous!) and the Zoozii sweetheart press. It's a faceted heart which makes it wonderfully reflective and it is remarkably easy to do. Some presses I find are just plain awkward and I want to throw them out of my shed lol. But this one I love and can see being made into some earring sets. If I ever find the time I might even make enough for a bracelet to match!

I've also been playing with my new fusing moulds but more on that next time!

Christmas looming on the Horizon!!!

You will all be glad to hear that I have finally battled with Mr Site and won! The website is now fully stocked and will remain so hopefully!

Since it is now officially the run up to CHRISTMAS I will be working overtime on the website as often as I can to make sure I keep everyone up-to-date with new products and ranges! As usual I have hundreds of ideas and can only hope for the hours to make them!

With the big event coming ever closer your thoughts may be turning to that dreadful process of buying presents! It's great fun buying presents for yourself, but hard work when it's for that list of friends and family! Well how about hosting a jewellery party? Let me do all the hard work for you, all you have to do is invite some friends over and have a good time.

Finally managed to make a lampwork thimble that i am happy with. its not perfect but i like its crazy way. Also made a couple of beads to make into a set of earrings. The clear part actually has goldstone in it and so looks very glittery in real life, unfortunately the pics didnt catch this. This is them.... pre cleaning and cooking :P

New toys!

Yip I've got my hands on some lovely new toys! Well they're still on the way to me via snail mail but I'm very excited! 4 new CG Beadrollers! I bought a second hand bicone beadroller a wee while back and absolutely love it. Even I (a relative newbie) can get some great, consistent results from it. So I'm hoping the new ones will be just as great. I also got a stand for them too. Well here they are:

- Tube trio - frit holder

- Classic four

- Donut spacers

- Small round spacers

- Beadroller base

Yay! Cant wait for them to arrive!!!

Then I'm going on a spending diet i think! lol.

Hoping to have pics up soon of the various plates i have been fusing and slumping over the last day or two. And I shall be experimenting by making vases using a drop ring too!

It's not all been glass though! I recently went to a jewellery making course at Cardonald college to learn more about traditional metalworking techniques. I absolutely loved it and plan to take a saturday course from the end of August. It was so much fun taking a piece of sheet silver and turning it into a ring or pendant.

Hi there!

The website has now been updated with all of my new glass pendant range! Each item is hand cut and finished. All the pendants are carefully fused and annealled for greater durability and come complete with leather necklace. I can provide a sterling silver chain at a small additional cost.

Included in the glass range are some gorgeous dichroic glass pendants which shimmer and change colour as the light hits them. these pendants are so stunning I had to keep one for myself!

There will be further updates to the site on a regular basis as I seem to be making items faster than I can photograph them! In some cases they are selling before I've even managed to package them! Cant complain of course, it's lovely to see people appreciate my hard work.

I have recently begun experimenting with glass bowls and vases and hope to have these added to the site in the coming month.

First craft fair was today!

Well as the title says I had a table at my first craft fair today. It was just a small local fair but i managed to sell a few pieces. Wasn't very busy today unfortunately but i have another couple booked for later in the summer so hopefully it will pick up during those.

I met a quite a few lovely fellow crafters which is always nice and I have been invited to join in with the fun in the park craft fair as well which was extremely busy last year. Oh and I was asked if I would like to sell my jewellery at a local OAP centre, so heres hoping these will fare better....

Silver jewellery- first attempts

Hey there, these are my first 2 attempts at making Sterling Silver jewellery. I havent mastered soldering yet so these are just some d shaped silver wire which i have shaped, filed and polished.

Bookmarks galore!

Hi there, I have had a very productive evening!!! So far I have made 11 paperclip bookmarks, 1 beaded metal bookmark and 2 donut necklaces!!! I'm thinking about getting a table at a local craft fair possibly next month so I'm trying to build up as much stuff as possible. The paperclip bookmarks are really quick and easy but look so cheerful! They're made using jumbo paperclips and buttons. Anyways enough of my rabble lets see the photos!!!

Finally got a card uploaded!

Here she is, this was made using a digi stamp by Wendy at Digital Doodling http://digital-doodling.blogspot.com/ , I advise you visit she's got some great stamps as freebies. I coloured the stamp using my promarkers. First attempt at using them, skirt could have been better but never to mind. The main card and pink panel were embossed using the texture boutique. The pink and purple cards are Core'dinations cardstock. Oh the sentiment is a rub on by Sizzix which came with the Texture Boutique. The ribbon & bling are from my stash.

I also did a promarker version of Percy to remind everyone to get a copy of my wee favourite owl from the previous post! It's free and he's cute so theres no excuses lol. Also if you save a copy let me know what you think of him.

Percy the Owl Digi Stamp

Hey there! So this post is far more interesting than my usual! I have made my own digi stamp!

I'm not saying its anywhere near as gd as the ones you can buy but I quite like him and it's gd practice using my graphics tablet. It was also quite fun to do.

My only problem is that I like the Percy with small feet and Al likes the Percy with large feet. So the million dollar question is which is better? All comments welcomed!

Spring cleaning time

Hi there, my apologies for the rather looooong time between posts. I've been rather busy.

Anyways, I'm taking part in the stash diet (eek!!!) over at the Trimmie forum. Not so much fun lol. I want too many things for this to work. But I have until the 18th of June to hold out until so hopefully I shall manage.

In order to see what I actually have in terms of stash I decided to spring clean my craft room. And also because Al kept shouting about it being a mess lol. I have sooo many things I have totally forgotten about! And not just for cardmaking!

So I plan to keep to my diet and try to make as many items as possible in the next 3 months from my stash. Hopefully this will include some jewellery and some baskets! Which is my newest hobby. Strange I know but it is quite useful and it gives me somewhere to keep all my stash!

Anyways just an update on things at the moment, hopefully I shall have some pics up very soon

My Garden Seed packets

Hello again, apologies for the long delay between posts! I have been both away to Rome and had a stomach bug in the last couple of weeks.

Whilst attempting to ignore the various symptoms of my stomach bug I decided to plan what I aim to at least attempt to grow in my garden this year. This is the first spring we've stayed in a house with a garden so it should be eventful to say the least!

In order to organise the seeds I had already bought I decided to create some matching seed packets to keep all of those awkward half opened seed packets in! Makes them all look much tidier now.

I have also decided to make a garden journal using my bind it all machine and some toilet tissue rolls. More on that when I figure out how to post the video of it onto my blog! Both that and the seed packets use the Dovecraft retro flowers papers btw.

Recycled watch

I made this watch today using an old watch which I believe was my mothers. I removed the face and attached 4 lengths of chain to it. the charms came from a wee thing i got years ago with a pair of jeans. I then added some swarovski crystals and the fastener is a cupid heart from John Lewis. All i need to do now is buy a battery for the watch!

Hello there! I am so glad all the snow has melted, I'm normally the type of person who doesnt mind a bit of snow but when you have to drive 20miles to work and back each day it tends to grate on the nerves!

Anyways, up for display today is a desk tidy I made using some toilet rolls, a pringles box, cardboard, ribbon and a roll of wrapping paper from Tesco. SO, in true Blue Peter style, here's one I made earlier:

On a completely different note, if anyone knows how to get flights to LA from the UK in the summer for less than £500 PLEASE let me know lol I really want to go!

Getting set for spring!

Well the snow has started to melt at long last! And in preparation for my mothers birthday at the end of this month I have made a very springtime themed card! The flowers are made using ordinary backing papers, brads and the instructions at the end of the video on this link http://www.docrafts.co.uk/asp/articles/?page=370. I must say, if they continue to make videos with great projects like these on it I could be convinced to join the Creativity Club for £2.50 a month!

It's such an easy, cheap and quick way to make really impressive 3D embellishments for your cards! Although I am now going to have to make a box to put it in as it certainly wont fit in an envelope!

Paws for a Moment cards

I got some free Paws for a Moment papers and decided to make a few cards with them. I made all of these cards in one evening so as you can guess they were quite quick to make. I love these papers, the colours are so bright and cheerful and the wee characters are incredibly cute!

Digital Scrapbooking!

I decided to have a shot at digital scrapbooking. I've never made a scrapbook page before but decided to make a scrapbook for the birth of my sister's baby this month. So I'm trying out some digital scrapbooking as a way of learning how to layout the elements of each page without wasting too much of my stash etc. Also it might be handy to do one on the pc so I can send it to the relatives via email. Anyways, I gave it a shot with some of the photos I had already posted on here as a trial run to see how difficult Photoshop was, here it is:

Really didnt take that long at all even with me having to learn how to work photoshop, thanks to all the online tutorials!

Hopefully I can get some proper pages done and show everyone those soon. I also have a stack of cards I've made and need to post using the Paws for a Moments papers.

Oh and I've received loads of new stash goodies this week, with a couple more to arrive. I'm now the proud owner of the Daisy and Dandelion stamps and the Candyfloss and Marshmallow stamps, I bought all of the Smirk clear stamps, 3 sets of See D's stamps, 4 papermania xmas sets and a few other bits and bobs too. Also just managed to get 6 packs of Dovecraft paper stacks 6x6 for making cards for the grand sum of £6.70 for all 6. I got the wedding, kids, retro flowers, glamour, masculine and abstract prints papers. So that should keep me going for a wee while!

Well it's just a wee short post today as I've been re-organising my craft stash all day and I'm still no-where near finished. My study looks like a bomb has hit it. But never to mind I'm getting there and the bits I have organised are very tidy indeed. Much better than it was before.

Storage Storage Storage!!!

Well after fighting my way through the snow here I managed to go collect the new camera I had ordered! Quite pleased with it as it was in the sale. Anyways on to more crafty things. I got fed up looking at the stack of printer paper boxes i had my cardstock in and decided to make them into something a wee bitty more pleasing to the eye:

Basically i cut up some bigger boxes ( possibly beer boxes from New Years) and made the outer casing from tht along with the supports for the drawers. The drawers are made from the printer paper boxes with the whole lot covered in some cheap wrapping paper from Asda and handles made of string. Oh i also covered the from of each drawer with clear film to stop the paper from ripping. I might eventually cover the whole thing in clear film but i ran out so I'll have to find some more first. The final box on the right is just a shoe box with an aperture cut out and replaced with acetate to provide a viewing window. I'm also quite pleased with these, much better than the boring old printer paper boxes! Just goes to show what you can make with a cardboard box.

Can't believe it's 2010 already! I'm looking forward to this year as me and Al are off to Rome for Valentines Day and my birthday in February! It's going to be so much fun!

Here is a wee pic of a card i made with some crafty goodies my friend bought me for Christmas! Absolutely lovely handmade papers and toppers. I've made a wee birthday card, probably for my Aunt.

Oh in addition i have a few christmas cards and presents that i couldnt post until now as the recipients hadnt received them until last night! The jewellery is made from an Enchanted Planet pendant collection i bought in hobbycraft months ago, i also made a brown one the same as this one and i have a red one i'm still to turn into something wonderful. The Butterfly bowls are jewellery bowls/candle holders and were made from resin plaster using a mould by EBERHARD FABER. I then spray painted, painted the detailed work and varnished them. I love them and made another one in white, brown and gold for myself to match my bedroom.

My new camera gets delivered sometime this weekend so hopefully from next week i'll have some better pics.

So very cute, little kittens and puppies. I especially like the little puppy peaking out of the present, i can see that appearing on many a birthday card!

Most of these were created using the Messy Rabbit Christmas CD by Joanna Sheen which i think is adorable. The characters are just the sweetest.

Apologies for the less than perfect pictures, my camera needs replacing.... i'll get round to it at some point, but i have soooo many other things i want to buy first!!!

OK so its the 29th of December, Christmas is over, New Year is around the corner and with it more birthdays, babies etc. And I'm making Christmas cards lol. More precisely I'm catching up with my own Christmas card list having left all the people I knew would be coming over to mines for New Year. I know, you shouldn't leave things to the last minute.... tell me that next October perhaps.....
